My Thoughts:  You may have seen at the end of my review of the Ageless Derma Anti-Aging Cream review, I commented on how impressed I was with the face cream and wondered how good the eye cream was.  Well, soon enough there was a complimentary bottle of the Ageless Derma eye cream in my mailbox for me to test out!  It's been about two and a half months now that I've been using the eye cream several times a week, and I'm fairly confident I can give an honest review on it now.

First let's talk about the claims for reducing fine lines.  My profile may not show it due to my makeup skills and the photographers lighting and editing, but I do have some fine lines around my eyes.  In my late 20s, my eye area really started to show age much faster than anywhere else on my body.  My eyelids have started to fold over, my circles have gotten much much darker (although I blame that on two kids under 10!), and I've gotten an increasing number or severity of fine lines at the outside corners of my eyes.  Nothing too severe, mind you, but it is a daily reminder that my 20s are gone, and without constant prevention and maintenance my skin isn't going to bounce back the way it did when I was younger.

That being said, after using this eye cream for the past few months, the fine lines on the outside corners of my eyes have completely disappeared!  I knew that it was a potent combination of vitamins and Retinol, but I wasn't really expecting such a big difference.  I wish I'd taken a before photo to show a comparison.  I preach all the time about using an eye cream, and yet I'm one of those people who neglects their own advice all the time and forgets to put some on.  I'm sure that simple fact contributed immensely to the dryness around my eyes that was alleviated with the use of the eye cream, but I really think it was mainly the Retinol.

Even the label will tell you that it's not a daily eye cream if you have sensitive skin, and the Retinol will cause some peeling.  I would put it on before bed and after about 20 minutes, I could run my fingertip around the orbital bone and feel little bits of skin rolling off from the Retinol peeling the surface up to promote skin cell turnover.  It's both weird and cool at the same time.  Just be careful you don't get any in your actual eye.

The hydration provided by the eye cream is excellent for something that also promotes peeling.  It also absorbs really quickly, so I don't have to wait forever before putting on my concealer.  I do my eyes first and then the rest of my skin care products so that it has ample time to penetrate, but total time I'd say is no more than five minutes.  I usually brush my teeth or my hair and then get started on my makeup.  Or maybe make a cup of tea or coffee.

The only downside I'd say is that it hasn't helped much at all for my dark circles.  They are slightly less evident, and I have a multitude of issues that contribute to their intensity, so I wasn't expecting much.  I've tried every eye cream on the planet in the last ten years to no avail.  I think that over time with continued use the Vitamin K in this eye cream in combination with the Retinol and Vitamin C would improve it more, but in the two and a half months I've been using it I haven't seen the kind of improvement consumers have been conditioned by advertising to expect.  Therefore, I can't endorse this eye cream as one giving users a dramatic improvement in dark circles in a time frame they'd consider "long enough", and most people would probably stop using it and switch to another.  (Can you sense my frustration with modern skincare advertisements and consumer expectations?)  However, if you are willing to continue use for several months or more, I'm confident it would provide the significant improvement the majority of users would find appropriate.


Final Verdict:  Fantastic for plumping up and smoothing out fine lines around the eyes and with continued use could provide measurable improvement for dark circles.

Hydroxatone Anti-Wrinkle Complex Review

I joined the iFabbo beauty bloggers network a few weeks ago, a program designed to put beauty bloggers in contact with beauty brands to review their products for free.  It's a fantastic program, where you earn "coins" for your reviews that you publish which you can then redeem for more products to test.  (If you're a beauty blogger like me, I highly recommend you submit your blog for review to see if you qualify.)  I'm also super excited to be headed out to San Fransisco next month for their annual beauty blogger conference.  It will be my first trip to California, and I've booked a room at a beautiful historic hotel.  But enough about that.  Let's get on to how amazing this skin cream is!

I may only be 30 and with pretty good skin for my age (apart from tons of sun damage from growing up with super pale Irish skin in Florida!), but I learned from the tender age of 15 that prevention is the true key to aging gracefully.  So when I find a new anti-aging skincare product, I don't dismiss is just because I don't have deep wrinkles yet!

My skin is super dry, and lately even though it's still summer I've been getting dry patches on my cheeks just outside my t-zone.  I had been using the Ageless Derma Anti-Aging Skin Cream {review here} for a few months and was really loving how quickly it absorbed with no residue on my skin.  Then my package from iFabbo came, and I got to try this little gem out for a while.  And oh, boy did it come just in time!

The texture of the Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Aging Complex is much thicker.  It's a traditional cream- thick, white, scoop some out with your finger and work it into the skin kind of cream.  It glides on very silky and really hydrates the skin.  Here's some info from the company on its ingredients that make it so hydrating:

Hyaluronic Acid- incredible ability to retain moisture in the skin which results in increased smoothness softness and decrease of facial wrinkles.
Matrixyl3000- helps skin to promote natural levels of collagen, hyaluronic acid and fibronectin.
Argireline- anti-aging peptide specifically designed to provide fast results.

Since I have such dry skin, I found this thick cream to be extremely pleasant to use.  I do have to admit that it may not be for everybody.  If you have very oily skin, you may be put off with how thick it is or how long it takes to soak in.  It's more suited to a night cream for those who wear makeup daily and don't want to wait a long time for the product to be completely absorbed before applying the makeup.  It has an SPF15 in it, so it's great if you want to wear it alone during the day to hydrate and protect against sun damage.

If you apply your foundation too soon it won't wear as long, and if you apply a powder while the skin is still tacky it can make the powder clump and streak.  It does take about 20 minutes before it's completely absorbed, so I'd recommend applying it right out of the shower (or after washing your face if you shower at night) and having your morning cup of coffee to let it really sink in and start to do its magic.  Just take a tissue or piece of toilet paper to blot off any excess on the surface if you don't have time to wait.

I've been using it for about three weeks now, and I've noticed a definite boost to the hydration level of my skin that lasts all day long.  I've used it twice a day, and I'm about halfway through the jar.  In my estimation, the jar should last you about 60 days or so.  Twice that if you use it just once a day.

Overall, I really love this anti-aging skin cream.  I've heard of the brand before and see it advertised in the Ulta catalogs all the time, but I'd never gone ahead and tried it on my own.  I'm so glad this was my first product for review both because it's a great product to use but I can have nice things to say for my first review! I hope there's either more products by the brand to review at some point or a great deal on a gift set from Ulta so I can try some other Hydroxatone products.

My Thoughts:  While I'm not aged 37 to 64, I am do come from an esthetics background, and it has always been my focus in skincare to concentrate on effective ingredients.  When I heard about Ageless Derma, I was intrigued by their use of stem cells in conjunction with retinol, peptides, and Coenzyme Q-10.  I'd learned in my education that those three were huge ingredients in the anti-aging game, and they are continually the ingredients I tell my clients to look for when shopping for skincare to promote smoother skin.  The fact that they also include green tea extract (which helps fight inflammation) and sodium hyaluronate (which promotes hydration and water retention in the skin) shows that they've done their research when it comes to key ingredients for anti-aging.   I'd heard about Argireline and Matrixyl 3000 as well in recent years as being two game changers in the skincare world.  They seem to be popping up all over the place.  You can go to the Ageless Derma website to read more about the individual ingredients, or even just do a quick Google search if you're skeptical.

 

Now back to those stem cells for a second.  I read that and immediately thought of all the controversy surrounding stem cell use and research.  But upon reading a little deeper I saw that they are plant stem cells, and they've been proven to help stimulate growth in old cells.  Being 30, I figure it's better to start early with my prevention than rely on correction later down the road.  I have some shallow forehead lines that are slowly starting to become more and more evident, so this was at least a small testing ground for the cream even if I didn't need major reversal.

 

I've been applying the cream every morning for the past three months, and I can run my finger over my forehead with only the slightest feeling of one line.  One, where there used to definitely be three forming.  I can only imagine what my skin would look like if I did have more advanced wrinkles.

 

The cream itself of more like a gel based moisturizer.  It's not a thick greasy opaque consistency like you'd assume.  It absorbs very quickly and leaves no residue.  It doesn't interfere with my makeup application at all, so I don't have to wait before applying my foundation like with many other creams.  It feels very silky on my fingertips.  The smell is the one thing that I'd change if it were up to me.  I'd either remove it completely or make it less herbal.  To me it smells like a combination of rosemary and grapefruit.  Not an unpleasant combination if you're talking about a candle, but not exactly something I want so close to my face.  Thankfully, it goes away super quickly, and I don't have to smell it all day even if I'm not wearing foundation on top of it.

Final Verdict:  This is an amazing product and an really amazing price for such a potent combination of proven effective ingredients.  I've seen similar creams with twice the price that rely solely on one or two of these main ingredients, so personally I find this a steal.  It's not a drugstore price brand, but the results I think validate the price if you really want something effective at regenerating the surface of your skin.  I'd love to test out more of their products, such as their eye cream (which contains retinol to renew the surface of the skin and Vitamin K to promote strengthening of the capillary walls- again two of the main ingredients I tell people to look for in an eye cream!).
