Perlier Imperial Honey Body Cream Review

Perlier Imperial Honey Body Cream Review

Where to Buy:  HSN.com

My Thoughts:  I was really looking forward to trying this product based on the product description of the imperial honey line I'd read online.  (The description on this particular product is painfully absent of any real information though.)  However, I was really put off by the smell of this body cream.  It was like dunking your head into a bucket of honey.  I think even Winnie the Poo would have thought it was a bit much.  When you hear that a body cream has honey in it, you think it's going to be a light slightly sweet scent but nothing too overpowering, right?  That's at least what I was thinking.

The benefits of honey aren't to be discounted, as it's been a highly praised ingredient in skin care for centuries.  I'd just rather know it was in there rather than feeling like that's the only thing I'd slathered across my body.  For experimentation's sake to write this review, I did use it all over after a shower and forced myself to wear it all day despite my aversion to the scent.

Thankfully, it did deeply hydrate my parched skin, and it absorbed without a sticky feeling at all.  I think that if I'd ended up feeling all sticky and gross afterwards, I'd have had to take another shower.  The scent either faded within the hour, or maybe my nose just gave up trying to deal with it and I got used to it.  I did have a few people ask me what perfume I was wearing, so at least it may just be me that couldn't stand the scent.

Final Verdict:  I hate that I keep hammering on about the smell of the product, but that's the thing that stuck with me the most and makes me give this particular product a thumbs down.  If you like the smell of honey however (which I very obviously do NOT), you'll probably be very very satisfied with the hydration level of this body cream and enjoy the fragrance. That is, if you're up for plunking down $40 for a jar of body cream not too much larger than you can find at The Body Shop for less than half that.

Product Review- Perlier Volcanic Thermal Spa Scrub

Perlier Volcanic Thermal Spa Scrub
Perlier Volcanic Thermal Spa Scrub

Perlier Volcanic Thermal Spa Scrub

From the company: More than a scrub, it's a true beauty treatment for the skin!  Perlier has extracted, from volcanic rocks, micronutrients that are essential and vital to the cells of the skin.  With natural minerals with different particle sizes, it delivers dual rejuvenating and smoothing action!  We like the sound of that!

The larger mineral particles work with the Thermal water to stimulate regeneration deep in the epidermis while the finer powders smooth the skin, removing dead cells and rough areas, leaving the skin soft and velvety like truly "new skin".

Perlier has transformed the extraordinary energy of the volcano into an "anti-aging energy" for the skin.

From that description, it had a lot to live up to!  I felt like I should be arising from my bath like a Venus- complete with cherubs fanning me with palm fronds and bluebird arranging my hair into braids like an extra from Game of Thrones.  Ok, I'm totally exaggerating here, but it did sound totally awesome and after filling up my tub in attempt to have a luxurious spa like background for my product photos, I couldn't wait to hop in, scrub up, and see how it lived up to my expectations.

First, let's talk about the smell.  It's like taking a big whiff of Hawaiian sea air.  When I think of volcanoes, I think of Hawaii.  And I've smelled the air in Hawaii, soaked in its thermal springs, seen an actual volcano.  It was the trip of a lifetime, and with two kids and my mother in law no longer living there (buh bye free accommodations!) I'll probably never experience it again.  I opened this jar up, smelled the scrub, and bam!  I was reliving my dream vacation.  It's like clean sea air in a jar.  That makes your skin pretty.  Already I was sold.

Next, let's talk texture.  Unlike any other scrub I've tried, this is almost like a gel.  You can see from the photo it looks a bit like gritty blue jelly.  It holds the pumice and silica spheres suspended for ease of application while imparting your skin with subtle moisture and no oily residue!  This is perfect to prep your skin before a waxing or a spray tan.  It rinses cleanly and leaves a subtle clean scent on your skin.

So it didn't make me miraculously into a demi-God, but it did totally buff out the dry patches on my body like a dream.  Major score number two from iFabbo.  Now I'm off to hunt down some pineapple in my pantry and look through my vacation album.  Until next time, Aloha!

Have you tried any of the Perlier products?  If so, I'd love to hear your recommendations.  I saw a honey tightening body duo that sounds like it would be amazing!

Product Review- Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex

Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex Review

Hydroxatone Anti-Wrinkle Complex Review

I joined the iFabbo beauty bloggers network a few weeks ago, a program designed to put beauty bloggers in contact with beauty brands to review their products for free.  It's a fantastic program, where you earn "coins" for your reviews that you publish which you can then redeem for more products to test.  (If you're a beauty blogger like me, I highly recommend you submit your blog for review to see if you qualify.)  I'm also super excited to be headed out to San Fransisco next month for their annual beauty blogger conference.  It will be my first trip to California, and I've booked a room at a beautiful historic hotel.  But enough about that.  Let's get on to how amazing this skin cream is!

I may only be 30 and with pretty good skin for my age (apart from tons of sun damage from growing up with super pale Irish skin in Florida!), but I learned from the tender age of 15 that prevention is the true key to aging gracefully.  So when I find a new anti-aging skincare product, I don't dismiss is just because I don't have deep wrinkles yet!

My skin is super dry, and lately even though it's still summer I've been getting dry patches on my cheeks just outside my t-zone.  I had been using the Ageless Derma Anti-Aging Skin Cream {review here} for a few months and was really loving how quickly it absorbed with no residue on my skin.  Then my package from iFabbo came, and I got to try this little gem out for a while.  And oh, boy did it come just in time!

The texture of the Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Aging Complex is much thicker.  It's a traditional cream- thick, white, scoop some out with your finger and work it into the skin kind of cream.  It glides on very silky and really hydrates the skin.  Here's some info from the company on its ingredients that make it so hydrating:

Hyaluronic Acid- incredible ability to retain moisture in the skin which results in increased smoothness softness and decrease of facial wrinkles.
Matrixyl3000- helps skin to promote natural levels of collagen, hyaluronic acid and fibronectin.
Argireline- anti-aging peptide specifically designed to provide fast results.

Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex Review

Since I have such dry skin, I found this thick cream to be extremely pleasant to use.  I do have to admit that it may not be for everybody.  If you have very oily skin, you may be put off with how thick it is or how long it takes to soak in.  It's more suited to a night cream for those who wear makeup daily and don't want to wait a long time for the product to be completely absorbed before applying the makeup.  It has an SPF15 in it, so it's great if you want to wear it alone during the day to hydrate and protect against sun damage.

If you apply your foundation too soon it won't wear as long, and if you apply a powder while the skin is still tacky it can make the powder clump and streak.  It does take about 20 minutes before it's completely absorbed, so I'd recommend applying it right out of the shower (or after washing your face if you shower at night) and having your morning cup of coffee to let it really sink in and start to do its magic.  Just take a tissue or piece of toilet paper to blot off any excess on the surface if you don't have time to wait.

I've been using it for about three weeks now, and I've noticed a definite boost to the hydration level of my skin that lasts all day long.  I've used it twice a day, and I'm about halfway through the jar.  In my estimation, the jar should last you about 60 days or so.  Twice that if you use it just once a day.

Overall, I really love this anti-aging skin cream.  I've heard of the brand before and see it advertised in the Ulta catalogs all the time, but I'd never gone ahead and tried it on my own.  I'm so glad this was my first product for review both because it's a great product to use but I can have nice things to say for my first review! I hope there's either more products by the brand to review at some point or a great deal on a gift set from Ulta so I can try some other Hydroxatone products.
